Categories of hosting services
A hosting service is associated with keeping and/or sharing particular content on a hosting server run by a web hosting distributor. There are different forms of hosting services utilized for various ends, so let's survey them. Thus, you can decide what you want, based on whether you'd like to launch a web portal, emails, or to share files with chums and partners.
- File hosting: a service supplied by particular companies, which enables you to share large files. These could be disk images, motion pictures, audio files, archived files, and so on. This service is also known as file storage, and its single designation is to share files, since it does not support web page uploading. As soon as the files are uploaded, you will either get a randomly created download link for each of them, or you will be able to view a record of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to see .html or .php website files in your web browser. Free-of-cost file storage packages are often supported by displaying ads by the download links, while a timer forces you to await a given amount of time to see them. A single file can be downloaded with limited speed. If you purchase a paid file hosting package, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download right away, and also there is no limit as far as the download speed and the file size are concerned.
At the moment, with the assistance of the cPanel hosting firms, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more stylish "cloud hosting". This is an entirely inappropriate explanation of the real meaning of "cloud hosting". A real cloud website hosting system would divide the workload between autonomous packs of hosting servers in a cluster, which are devoted to serving different web page hosting services (electronic mail, disk storage, statistics, DNS, databases, site hosting Control Panel, etc.) So, the file hosting service is only a brand of a disk space hosting service, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.
- Image hosting: close to file hosting; given vendors offer a hosting service for images only. This hosting type is good if you would like to share an immense number of pics with chums or associates since the solution is generally free. You will obtain a randomly generated link for every picture or album and you can then share this link. As with the file storage solution, .html and .php files are not supported, so the service cannot be utilized for sites.
- E-mail hosting: a solution committed to tackling your mails. Some corporations offer hosting services for sites, but do not provide an e-mail hosting solution. If you desire to set up a mail address with your domain name but do not want to keep a site, then the email hosting service is what you want. You can set up e-mailbox accounts and administer them, but there will be no hosting service for the domains. The email hosting solution includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP email servers.
- Video hosting: this solution allows you to upload and share video files. You can either share a link to a given video file, or you can embed the video clip in your web page that is hosted somewhere else. The advantage of using this method instead of uploading the video file in a hosting account is that the video file creates a certain amount of CPU load, so with a couple of video files and a few hundred website visitors, you may have difficulty with your web site hosting resources. Embedding the video clip will enable you to use as many video clips as you want to without bothering about system resources.
- Web page hosting: this is the service that you need if you would like to keep a site. To some extent, it includes all of the aforementioned hosting groups since, along with your web pages, you can also host pictures and files, you can run databases and email mailbox accounts, upload video clips, etc. At Smartway Hosting, for example, you can have a gaze at web hosting and dedicated web hosting solutions that permit you to get all of the aforesaid services in one single location. There may be limitations based on the kind of hosting solution that you've selected - a free hosting plan, a paid shared hosting package, a VPS or a dedicated server. Based on that, your web space hosting plan may be better or worse in comparison with the customary e-mail/file/video/image hosting accounts that are planned for specific web content exclusively.
